The REAL homeless comic

First of all let me apologize up front for the extremely poor quality of this video. I did the best I could with what I had at the spur of the moment. I even tried to fix it after with some help and my own non existent editing skills. The audio sucks because of the cars and buses on the street, and even after the 12 hours it took to add subtitles, once I uploaded it the quality went down a few more notches… so my sincere apologies. I looks and sounds much better on my computer so if you want to come over car and watch it sometime holla atcha boi!

I continue to experiment and explore how exactly I want to deliver my message and art to the world. I still hold strong to my long term vision. The Homeless Comic… it changes in my mind all the time as the “experiment” continues to take and change shape. Recently downtown Seattle in Pioneer Square I met Sebastian, who stopped my buddy Joe and I on the street because he was telling jokes for money… he was a real homeless comedian.

Intrigued and delighted at his request, I couldn’t pass on it. I asked if we could film our interaction and he was cool with it. Thanks for the stellar camera work Joe! The result was pretty interesting. Sebastian was a cool character, his clothes were clean except for the beard trimmings that be-speckled his white Mariners t-shirt. (Heh, I just used the word be-speckled…) His jokes were straight from the pages of “101 of the most common jokes you hear everywhere you go”, or what we comics commonly refer to as bar jokes. You will see me in the video prepare to use the RimShotinater 3000 before he finishes his jokes because I already know the punchline… I tried to hack a bar joke of my own but failed and will never live it down… I’ve never been good at telling joke jokes anyway and can never come up with them when anyone asks.

The most interesting part of this for me was at the end when Sebastian delivers his manifesto. With his permission I asked him some questions about being homeless etc. He claims to be homeless by choice and shares his reasons for being so. I was scared and intrigued at the same time by Sebastian. As with anyone you meet on the street you may never know if they are who they say they are or if they are telling you the truth. At one point he puts his arm around me and my reflex moved my hand to protect my throat. I didn’t think he would choke me out in broad daylight but in the moment you never know…

Ladies and gentlemen… SEBASTIAN!!!

Truthful or crazy or not he managed to make a good point. Have you ever asked your money stash or your TV for help? Sebastian is right, because they will never be there for you if you do. So go out and make some friends! AND COUNT THE SMILES!!!! :)
