I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS BORING UPDATE WITHOUT ANY SHORT ATTENTION SPAN GOODIES LIKE PICTURES OR VIDEO. I PROMISE THIS WILL BE BETTER BY THE END OF THE SUMMER WITH MORE FREQUENT UPDATES AND SOME GOOD SHIT TO SHARE. IF IT IS BORING TO READ YOU WILL HAVE TO EXCUSE ME, I AM STILL FINDING MY BLOGGING VOICE.
Eureka! I made it to Eureka, California that is… I’ve already lost track of time I have no idea what day it is and haven’t showered in a few days. I LOVE MY LIFE! Don’t be jealous that you aren’t comfortable enough with yourself to stew in your own funk for a while its not as bad as you think, you body needs its natural oils anyway… at least thats what I keep telling myself.
So, when I started this journey in Sept. 2007 I had no idea where I was going what I was going to do and how it might turn out. I’m not sure I even knew how I wanted it to turn out. What it was really about was me finding a way to do stand up and not have to do what the rest of people do: move to a city, stay there for years working a day job and hopefully put enough together to go out on the road and pay your dues while paying for an apartment that you don’t live in anyway.
That was part 1. Part 2 was doing so in a way that would make a difference (even the smallest of difference matters) in a few lives. Maybe some homeless folks or maybe some regular folks that have always had the itch to free themselves from what they feel like they have to be doing in order to do what they would love to be doing. I have heard on more than one occasion that my “lifestyle choice” as it has been called has served as an inspiration.
AND just when I thought my little “experiment” was over and was going to be labeled a failure. I got a second wind. I didn’t know what to do and BLAM the perfect job just landed in my lap. So once again I have found a way to conserve the cashflow and “live the dream” which now consists of booking regular comedy work at clubs and putting together “The Comic Element” comedy tour to pitch to sponsors and take some of my good friends that I have met over the years on the road for a great big comedy ho-down!
This summer my “day job” is a marketing position for a financial company that is sponsoring a mobile museum of stuff from the Titanic. I don’t want to give details but if you are curious you can go to www.countrytitanic.com.
I travel around and meet up with the exhibit in the different cities and basically work the door for the event. There is more to it but why bore you with details when I’ve already bored you with an update with out pictures or videos or anything… I promise that with my new found corporate carnival money I will buy a new camera to better document what will be the most epic summer EVER!
I am doing guest spots at clubs in every city I can and booking shows when I can on weeks off.
Denver has a great comedy scene. I did guest spots at Wits End Comedy Club, and Loonee’s
Comedy Corner as well as open mics at Comedy Works and several dive bars around town. Big thanks to Gretchen Hess for allowing to crash at her pad and to Jake Sharon for the inside track on when and where to perform.
I left Denver Sunday heading for the Arches National Park in Moab, UT but only made it 6 hours before needing a rest and sleeping at a truckstop. Made it to Moab, camped for a night on the Colorado River and headed to San Francisco, but not before stopping in to say Hi to my friend Damion in Reno. D hooked it up! We were there in less than 12 hours but managed to sleep, shower, get laundry done and have breakfast. I should rephrase that D hooked us up with his mom (not in the gross way) and his mom treated us like family, it was awesome!
San Francisco for just one night. We were hosted by a nice guy named Emmanuel from couchsurfing.com. My friend Chad Lehrman hooked up a guest spot at the Purple Onion and I did 7 minutes in front of 7 people. It was pretty awesome to be on that stage, that place is legendary! We left SF yesterday after a day in the Haight-Ashbury District, drove as much as we could and slept in the car on the side of the road just outside of Mendicino, CA.
Now on the 101 heading North into Portland, but not before a few camping days on the coast…
